A Little Dumpling Is On The Way: A Beautiful Baby Shower At Slate On South
When it comes to baby showers, we’ll say it every time — the best ones start with a fun idea and turn into something completely unforgettable.
The theme request, a little dumpling is on the way, was all we needed to make some magic happen.
Hosted at Slate on South, this bright, airy space became the perfect canvas for Homemade Eventsto bring every thoughtful, playful detail to life.
Because when you come to us with an idea, we don’t just decorate. We design an end-to-end experience, absolutely commit to the theme, and create core memories you’ll never, ever forget.
“A Little Dumpling Is On The Way” Baby Shower Celebration
This special baby shower was planned by the mom-to-be’s friend, who came in with the dumpling theme and a vision for something unique and meaningful.
From there, our team stepped in with our full service event planning services to transform that idea into a fully cohesive celebration.
The result? A party that felt:
soft and elevated
playful but not overdone
and completely personalized to the mom-to-be
No detail was overlooked — and that’s what made this shower feel so special from the moment guests walked in.
All of these beautiful details were artfully captured by the talented Roberto Filipe, of Bertos Camera.
The Baby Shower Backdrop Moment (Dumplings and all)
Every great event needs a moment, and this one had a big one.
The focal point of the space featured a custom-designed backdrop layered with soft taupe, blush, and white tones. A dramatic balloon installation framed the scene, featuring a mix of neutral balloons and whimsical dumpling accents.
Front and center, the statement piece read: “A little dumpling is on the way”
Positioned in front of the backdrop was a modern leather loveseat, creating a cozy and stylish space for:
photos with guests
gift opening
candid moments throughout the shower
A small boho-style rug grounded the setup, adding warmth and texture to the overall look.
Nearby, a bookshelf invited guests to participate in one of the sweet details of the day — bringing books instead of cards to help build baby’s future library. (Because the best kind of clutter is a growing book collection.)
Elevated Tablescapes For “A Little Dumpling” Baby Shower
The tables throughout the space carried the same soft, elevated aesthetic while weaving in subtle nods to the “Little Dumpling” baby shower theme.
Each table featured:
layered white and taupe chiffon runners
delicate bud vases filled with white blooms
votives and taper candles nestled throughout
And one of our favorite details?
Each bud vase included a custom dumpling character, tying the theme in without overwhelming the design.
At each place setting, guests were welcomed with a beautifully curated experience:
scalloped white plates with gold rims
gold chargers and flatware
custom-wrapped chopsticks labeled “Amanda’s Baby Shower”
custom dumpling cookies, artfully crafted by Manicotti’s Cookies
mini dumpling favors packaged in mini bamboo steamers (can you even?!)
and a “Guess Who – Mommy Or Daddy” game card with dumpling-themed pens
It’s these layered, intentional details that take a baby shower from a simple celebration to a truly memorable core memory for the mama to be and the people she loves most (our specialty!)
A Little Dumpling Baby Shower Brunch & Dessert Spread
The food and dessert displays for this Little Dumpling Baby Shower were just as thoughtfully designed as the décor.
For the main meal, guests enjoyed a beautiful brunch buffet provided by Seared and Saccharum, bringing both style and substance to the celebration.
The dessert table featured a stunning assortment of cupcakes from Cheesy Eddie’s, displayed on tiered white stands for a clean, elevated look.
A custom cookie display — presented inside a bamboo steamer (of course) — tied the dumpling theme in perfectly while adding a creative, unexpected touch.
Because, a good theme is great, but good food? Non-negotiable.
More Baby Shower Details Guests Loved
Some of the most meaningful moments came from the interactive elements woven throughout this adorable little dumpling of a bridal shower.
Guests participated in:
• a Polaroid guest book station, where photos were added to a custom wooden album featuring baby Kapitan’s sonogram (stop, so cute!)
• a “Guess Baby Kapitan’s Arrival Date” calendar, where guests could place their predictions
And yes… the calendar display was topped with an oversized dumpling balloon. Because we were not about to miss that opportunity.
These interactive pieces created keepsakes that the mom-to-be will be able to cherish long after the day is over — not just décor, but memories in the making.
Why Slate On South Was the Perfect Setting for This “A Little Dumpling” Baby Shower
One of the reasons this “A Little Dumpling” baby shower came together so beautifully is the versatility of this mid-size Rochester event venue.
With its natural light, clean design, and flexible layout, it allows each event to feel completely different depending on the vision.
For this shower, it became:
bright and airy
soft and feminine
playful yet elevated
The perfect backdrop for a theme that could have easily leaned overly cutesy — but instead felt intentional and refined. Goals.
